How to overcome temptation
Satan attacks the individual Christian mostly through temptation and he focuses this in two aspects, one is the Desires of the world and the second is desires of flesh. In the first attack, he make to tempt a believer to fall in the love of money and he make them think this is the centre of life and seeking popularity and position of this world. In the second aspects usually he attacks in the moral life of a Christian.
Bible says..”When tempted, no one should say “God is tempting me" For God can't be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone” (James 1:13) because God is good, He never tempt in evil!
Here I outlined seven keys to overcome temptation:
1. Know The Victory is already won!
Bible says in Colossians 2:14,15
“He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross”
Based on the foundation of this victory won for us by Christ. Now the Christian can defeat any attack from the enemy. We should not be ignorance about this vital truth. If we know the complete work of the Cross and Resurrection, we can face any weapon from the enemy and easily we can conquer and overcome his temptation!
2. Walk in the Spirit!
When we saved, a new power placed in every believer’s life, that is the power of Holy spirit. We should be sensitive to inner prompting of voice of Holy spirit, then the Holy spirit will help us to overcome temptation leads to victorious Christian life. Apostle. Paul says in Galatians 5:16 “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” so let's walk by the Spirit in every step of our spiritual life!
3. Know The Truth about temptation!
As a Christian we must know “Temptation is not a sin; yielding to temptation is sin” (James 1:15)
Satan can't push into pit of sin until we cooperate with him. We can't avoid evil thoughts in our mind but we should not be live in that!
4. To know every temptation has a Emergency Exit to escape from the temptation!
Bible says..”No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
Are you afraid about temptation, fear not there is a way, there is a emergency exit to escape from the fiery enemies schemes!
5. Keep right focus in Christian life!
Apostle. Paul says in Col. 3:1,2
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Let's fix our mind and focus on things above, give priority to spiritual blessings, don't keep your mind on earthly things. Let's say with Paul “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
6. Keep away from obvious areas of temptation!
Devils know our weakness and he always attacks in our weak area of our life. So be careful and sound mind, be prepared to submit to God and resist the devil, no temptation put you down!
7. Be aware of Satan’s schemes!
It's important for us to know tactics and cunning of devil. We can understand how Satan is crafty fellow in the garden of Eden, He has long period experience of craftiness. Bible says..he is liar, deceiver, tempter and roaring lion.
God has promised to deliver in every temptation. Bible says..”For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are —yet he did not sin.”(Hebrews 4:15) and He is able to help those who are being tempted (Heb 2:18)
